These guys are great. We bought our house earlier this year off Caldwell Mill and it has several decks that we know very little about and didn't know how to take care of. I simply wanted someone to come by to let me know how the decks are looking and give any advice on maintenance/repairs.

I spoke with Kevin on the phone and he was incredibly friendly and gave me some initial tips, but explained that they are completely swamped this season and he just didn't think they'd get the chance to come by anytime soon. And that's fair because I was pretty much asking for them to come out for no money, just to help me out anyway. Well, about a minute later, he called me back to let me know that they could actually swing by before heading to another project the very next day!

TJ then called me right after to go over a few things and was equally as friendly and informative. Then, this morning, he came by right on time and gave all the decks a thorough look, giving me great advice the entire way through and letting me know exact areas to keep an eye on.

These guys really know they're stuff and I'm 100% coming back to them when I need any further help with my decks.

The team worked hard and did an excellent job. They also cleaned up after themselves well. The deck is extremely well made and strong. We should get many years of service out of it.

Owner's reply
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this! I'll pass this along to the guys—they take a lot of pride in leaving a clean job site and building decks that stand the test of time. We really appreciate your business!

The original builder I hired to replace my old deck misled me about his expertise. The new deck did not pass inspection with the city of Hoover. I contacted Kevin with Hoover Deck and he agreed to make all the corrections needed. His team did a great job and the deck passed inspection. Communication throughout the project from Kevin was outstanding. I would highly recommend Hoover Deck to anyone planning to replace or build a new deck. Wish I had hired them originally!

Owner's reply
Thanks so much, Larry. Honestly, it drives me crazy seeing good people get burned like that, so I’m just glad we could step in, get the city off your back, and do it right. If any of your neighbors, friends, or family ever need deck work done, pass my name along, you know we’ll treat them right. Enjoy the new deck!

Kevin Cato, owner of Hoover Deck & Porch, has a passion for building quality decks and porches. That commitment to quality was evident when he was contracted to re-screen and resurface our deck.
Kevin has a highly professional crew that arrived promptly each day, worked long hours, paid close attention to detail, and consistently demonstrated quality workmanship. Any hiccups that arose during the project were resolved promptly. Kevin was always accessible by phone or text and responded quickly to any questions or concerns.
We expected our older deck to be restored to reflect quality craftsmanship. Kevin and his crew exceeded our expectations. The finished project looks like a well-built, quality deck, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results.
We highly recommend Kevin Cato and Hoover Deck & Porch!
Thank you!!!

Kevin was very knowledgeable and insightful on everything it takes to build an elevated deck. He was prompt to respond and very transparent around his pricing. I recommend connecting with him if anyone is looking to build a deck in Birmingham.

Kevin’s crew did a great job…even in Kevin’s absence as he was out of town the whole time our job was undertaken! Commendations for his organizational talent and faith in his workmen - although he DID keep in touch with them throughout the 3 days the crew worked on our job by text and telephone! It was admittedly a simple job, but it started out with a basic problem: the incorrect materials package had been delivered before the crew arrived. Fortunately, Day 1 was a demolition day so they resolved the materials delivery and were ready to go the next day. That gave them time to tear down the remnants of our 20+ year old wooden pergola deck in our backyard forest and prepare the footings for a new 12’ x 12’ deck. Day 2 saw the footers and frame erected and most of the new Trex decking installed. On Day 3 the decking and steps were completed and the crew assembled our new powder-coated aluminum-framed pergola kit from Costco; and every bit of debris was cleaned up and removed from the job site before the crew departed. Our new pergola should certainly last for many years and we couldn’t be more pleased with the construction results which have blended in so well in our forested backyard. Many thanks, Kevin and crew!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review!
Managing a busy construction schedule alongside family life means I can't always be on-site, but I have spent years building a team that doesn't need to be micromanaged. Hearing that they stepped up, kept things moving, and executed the job to perfection is the highest compliment I could receive as a business owner.

In this industry, there are a lot of moving parts, and unexpected supply chain mix-ups like the material package happen from time to time. The real test is how a team handles it, and I'm incredibly proud of how quickly the guys pivoted on Day 1 to ensure the timeline didn't slip. I love the challenge of solving those puzzles!

I agree, when I personally inspected the final result after getting back into town, I too feel the new Trex deck and pergola look fantastic against that backyard forest backdrop.

Please remember we are always here if you ever need us to take a second look at anything down the road. Enjoy your beautiful new outdoor space and thank you again for trusting me and my team!

After many calls and estimates from other companies I didn’t know who to trust. I finally found Hoover Deck online and Kevin contacted me immediately. Kevin and his crew did an amazing job screening in my back patio and also installed two doggie doors. I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking for deck or screening porches. Also he is a nice and honest man.

Owner's reply
Hi Jean, thank you so much for the kind words! It was a real pleasure working with you to get that back patio screened in—and I’m glad we could get those doggie doors set up for you too.

Please give me a call if you ever need anything else. Also, be sure to tell your friends and family to mention your name when they reach out; you know I’ll take great care of them!
