Labor vs. Materials: Who Pays for What?

We believe in being fair. Here is how we handle the costs if a repair is needed:

If We Caused the Issue (Labor & Materials Covered)

If a problem is caused by our installation (such as a structural failure or improper assembly), we cover the cost of both the labor and the materials needed to fix it.

If the Material Fails (Labor Only)

If a board cracks, splits, or fails due to natural causes or a manufacturing defect, we are happy to replace it for you. In this case, our warranty covers the labor to swap it out, but you are responsible for providing the new material or paying for the replacement board.

Who is Covered?

This warranty protects the original homeowner we worked with. It does not transfer to a new owner if you sell your home.

Wood vs. Composite: What to Expect

We want you to have realistic expectations about the materials you choose.

Pressure-Treated Wood

Wood is a natural product that reacts to Alabama’s humidity and weather.

  • Natural Changes: It is normal for wood to check (small cracks), warp slightly, or fade. These are natural characteristics of the material, not installation defects, and are not covered by the warranty.

  • Installation Defects: We do cover failures caused by installation errors, such as loose connections or improper framing.

Composite & Manufacturer Warranties

We build with high-quality materials like composite decking and Fairway railings.

  • Manufacturer Coverage: Defects in the materials themselves (like fading, staining, or rotting) are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty (often 20–50 years), not HD&P.

  • Registration: The homeowner is responsible for registering these products to activate the manufacturer’s warranty.

  • Our Support: We use reliable materials we trust. If you have a material issue, we are happy to provide the product details you need to file a claim.

Exclusions: What is Not Covered

Our warranty ensures we did our job right, but we cannot control everything. The deck and porch warranty does not cover:

A drawing of the number 1.

Acts of God

Damage from storms, fallen trees, floods, fire, tornadoes, hurricanes, or any other severe weather events.

A drawing of the number 2.

Neglect

Damage caused by a lack of reasonable maintenance (like failing to clean the deck or clear debris).

A drawing of the number 3.

Changes

Repairs, alterations, or additions made by the homeowner or another contractor after our work is finished.
